| Emma joined our family in 2000 and immediately started off with some adventure. Having only been with us for a week, she broke her collar while outside and went "on the run" for a week. She was scared out of her wits and wouldn't let anyone approach her. In fact, she was clocked repeatedly (by people trying to pace her with cars) at 45 mph. After hearing about this, her breeder suggested we put her in obedience if/when we got her home. Our response was "the heck with obedience, we're putting her in lure coursing." Anyway, after a week on the run, she finally started to calm down and regain her wits. Thanks to a wonderful community effort of "Emma signtings" being reported to us non-stop, we identified her territory and were able to meet her at one of her resting spots. She was overjoyed to come back home. Although we were glad to see her, we weren't glad to smell her. Apparently she tangled with a skunk somewhere along the way. But, since she managed to gain a pound while on her own for a week (something we figure ONLY A CATTLE DOG could do), we assume that the skunk lost. Once home, Emma started learning obedience and other fun stuff and has settled in just great. | |||||||||
